May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Theme Highlights Importance of Speaking Up, Sharing What #mentalillnessfeelslike

Cheyenne, WY – Mental health awareness month comes around every May. Working in the mental health and wellness community means that this month is very much a part of our calendar. NAMI (The National Association on Mental Illness) reminds us that 1 in 5 Americans will be affected by a mental health condition in their lifetime and every American is affected or impacted through their friends and family and can do something to help others.

Mental health and wellness means different things to different people. Most importantly, we are striving to help those in our communities understand that seeking help for emotional stress or mental illness is very acceptable and encouraged. Peak Wellness Center is happy to be a part of making mental health awareness easier to obtain and relevant to various populations. Peak is more visible in social media and other media formats, as well as, in community venues and education events.

This Mental Health Month, Mental Health America is encouraging people to speak up about how it feels to live with a mental illness by tagging social media posts with #mentalillnessfeelslike. Posting with this hashtag is a way to speak up, to share your point of view with people who may be struggling to explain what they are going through—and help others figure out if they too are showing signs of a mental illness.

It is exciting to note that more people are sharing their stories and are encouraged to talk about their experiences every year. We are pleased to be a part of our communities in Southeast Wyoming!.
